A hot tar roof is a commercial roof system that consists of layers of roofing tar and roofing felt. The blocks of tar would be melted to around 500 degrees and then mopped over the membrane felt multiple times for multiple layers. This is one of the original roof systems and though it’s not really installed anymore, there are still a lot of buildings with this type of roof.
